Building Connection & Community

You shouldn't have to navigate kinship care alone.

Children's Service Society - Community EngagementSocial connection is an important part of building strong, resilient families. For  kinship caregivers, finding people who understand the unique experience of raising  a relative’s child can make a meaningful difference.

GRANDfamilies creates opportunities for kinship families to connect, laugh, share  experiences, and build relationships in comfortable, casual settings. Through family events, Friend 2 Friend gatherings, and community collaborations, we bring families together beyond the traditional service setting—creating spaces where caregivers and children can simply enjoy being part of a community that understands them.

Sometimes support starts with a conversation, a shared experience, or simply knowing someone else gets it.

Meet Becca Phillips

Community Engagement Coordinator

Children's Service Society - Community Engagement

Becca brings a natural talent for building connections and creating opportunities for people to come together. She uses her strengths in relationship-building to strengthen GRANDfamilies’ involvement throughout the community, developing collaborations and partnerships that expand resources, opportunities, and support for kinship families.

Becca also plays a key role in creating memorable experiences for kinship families through Friend 2 Friend (F2F) events, coordinating activities and community experiences where families can connect in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

She has developed strong partnerships with community organizations and businesses through platforms such as JustServe and ShareTix, helping connect GRANDfamilies with volunteers, donated experiences, and meaningful opportunities for the families we serve.

Whether she is bringing community partners to the table or creating the next family experience, Becca is passionate about building bridges between kinship families and the communities that want to support them.

Friend 2 Friends

Friend 2 Friend events bring kinship families together for activities, celebrations, and opportunities to build relationships with other families who understand their experience.

GRANDfamilies offers 4 large events in each of our office regions, as well as game and movie nights throughout the year. We love to collaborate with community partners to make these events memorable and truly build connections.

Community Partnerships

Stronger families need strong communities

GRANDfamilies knows that we can't meet every need of every kinship family on our own. Strong community partnerships allow us to connect families with resources, experiences, and opportunities that extend beyond the services we provide.

We collaborate with organizations, businesses, schools, nonprofits, government agencies, and community groups across Utah to create a stronger network of support for kinship families. Through these partnerships, we connect families to resources, bring new opportunities to our communities, and help ensure that kinship families are seen, valued, and included.

Connecting families to resources

Our community partners help us connect kinship families with resources and services that meet their unique needs—from basic necessities and educational opportunities to health, recreation, and family support.

Creating experiences and opportunities

Community partnerships also allow us to offer kinship families experiences they may not otherwise have access to. Local businesses and organizations donate tickets, activities, meals, space, services, and other experiences that give families opportunities to have fun and create positive memories together.
