Decide if adoption is the right choice for you and your child
Every situation surrounding a pregnancy or birth of a child is unique. An adoption counselor can help you consider ALL of your options so that you can make the best choice for your situation. We will support you in any decisions you make.

Create an adoption plan
If you decide that adoption is the right choice for you and your child, your counselor will help you develop an adoption plan, which is a plan of what your adoption will be like. You are in charge of the adoption and you get to choose the adoptive family, the amount of contact you would like with the family and your child, and the details of your hospital plan.

Choose an adoptive family
All adoptive families have been screened to make sure they are healthy and appropriate families, including background checks, special training, and detailed interviews with social workers. You can look through family profiles and meet them in person before making a decision.

Build a relationship with the adoptive family
Once you find the family you feel is the best fit for you and your baby, we encourage you to begin creating a relationship with them. Your counselor can help mediate phone calls, in-person or virtual meetings, email exchanges, and interactions at the hospital.

Prepare for the birth of your child
This includes not only your birth plan and hospital stay, but also counseling to help you prepare for the grief and loss you will experience, what physical and emotional support you might need, and how you would like the day of the adoption placement to happen.

Post-adoption support
While signing the adoption papers happens on just one day, the adoption experience will be part of you for life. We will support you for life, too! We offer ongoing counseling related to the adoption, support groups, and we will continue to help you navigate the relationship with the adoptive family.
